Descrição

History & Origin: The Saguaro Cactus, Carnegiea gigantea, is native to the Sonoran Desert of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It is an iconic symbol of the region and is adapted to intense sunlight, seasonal rainfall, and prolonged dry periods.

Care & Maintenance Guide:

  • Sun / Lighting: Provide full sun and a bright, open position. Strong direct light supports healthy, compact growth, although young plants should be acclimated gradually.
  • Watering: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water deeply during warm growing periods but keep the plant much drier during cool weather. Wrinkling may indicate drought, while soft tissue or discoloration suggests excess moisture.
  • Soil Type: Use a sharply draining mineral cactus mix containing pumice, grit, coarse sand, or perlite. Avoid heavy organic soils and containers that retain water; a neutral to slightly alkaline mix is generally suitable.
  • Nutrients & Fertilization: Apply a diluted low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer sparingly during active spring and summer growth. Avoid fertilizing during cool or dormant periods.
